Вышла бета-версия Opera 8

На минувшей неделе норвежская компания Opera Software выпустила очередную бета-версию своего браузера. Напомним, что текущая стабильная версия Opera имеет номер 7.54, а новый, находившийся на стадии тестирования вариант имел номер 7.6.

Однако с течением времени в браузер было добавлено так много новых функций, что разработчики решили, что новой версии вполне можно присвоить номер 8.0. Соответствующая бета-версия "самого быстрого на Земле браузера" и была выпущена накануне наступления в Норвегии рождественских праздников.

Описание всех появившихся в браузере нововведений можно найти на сайте Opera. Из самых заметных стоит отметить оптимизацию представления веб-страниц под размер окна - опция Fit to window width позволяет избавиться от горизонтальной полосы прокрутки, а Fit to page width оптимизирует страницу для печати. Упростилась работа с RSS- каналами - теперь для доступа к ним не нужно активировать почтовый клиент, а при работе с сайтами, поддерживающими экспорт в формате RSS в адресной строке появляется кнопочка, позволяющая добавить канал во встроенный агрегатор.

Значительно упростилась система меню, а закрытые страницы и заблокированные всплывающие окна теперь складываются в корзину, расположенную слева от вкладок, на которых расположены веб-страницы. Доступ к закладкам и дополнительным панелям поиска теперь можно получить через панель инструментов, выпадающую из адресной строки при создании нового окна. На каждой вкладке появилось по кнопке закрытия.

Не менее важным пунктом стало и улучшение поддержки стандартов DHTML и CSS, с которыми у Opera традиционно возникают проблемы. В новой версии Opera поддерживается инструмент XMLHttpRequest и наконец-то стало возможным работать с почтовой службой Gmail. И хотя Gmail по-прежнему предупреждает о возможной несовместимости браузера с почтовой службе, зайти внутрь почтового ящика и работать с письмами теперь можно без проблем. Внешний вид Gmail в Opera, однако по-прежнему отличается от внешнего вида почтовой службы в Mozilla и Internet Explorer.

Выпуск окончательной версии Opera 8 намечен на начало 2005 года. Для зарегистрированных пользователей седьмой версии обновление будет бесплатным.

Messaging and Newsfeeds

* Added support for and auto-detection of Atom newsfeeds.
* When user sets up a gmail.com account in the new account wizard, correct values are filled out automatically.
* Improved handling of quoted-printable encoding. QP is now decoded by default in incoming messages, in violation of RFC2047 §5.3. RFC compliance can be met by setting "Allow Incoming QuotedString QP=1" in accounts.ini.
* IRC settings are now stored in incoming options file rather than in accounts.ini.
* Setting in IRC account properties for whether or not to accept incoming connections.
* Improved handling of IRC URLs. Will match the server name in the URL against all servers listed for an account, and only create a new account if none match.

Security

* Added whitelist of safe top-level domains for IDN.
o TLDs are considered safe if they have implemented anti-homographic character policies or otherwise limited the available set of characters to prevent spoofing.
o Current whitelist contains: :no:jp:de:se:kr:tw:cn:at:dk:ch:li:
o List is in opera6.ini and is updated automatically in the Opera version check.
o Domain names from other top-level domains that contain characters outside Latin 1 will be displayed in punycode, an encoding syntax designed for use with IDNA, specified in RFC3492.

* Added support for the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) -- real-time requests for certificate status.

Вот и славненько, что вышла 2-я бета. А то в 1-й что-то с почтовиком такое было - ненароком загрузил мою корреспонденцию и куда-то засунул, что пришлось через заднее кирильцо добывать. А 2-я бетка этого уже избавлена.
